The nod lends ballast to the series, which has already generated critical plaudits in its early days and has expanded the profile of its host, a veteran faux-news correspondent of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” who is one of the few female hosts in the expanding late-night genre. The Time Warner-owned cable outlet had initially ordered 13 episodes of the series. TBS said it had ordered an additional 26 episodes of her comedic talk show, which means the program will air 39 episodes in total through the end of the year. Samantha Bee, who has delivered scathing topical humor at the helm of TBS’ new “Full Frontal” for the last several weeks, has lot more to laugh about.
